Asylum Cigars – Focus on Large Formats
When it comes to cigars, more is definitely more – at least if you follow the current trend. For several years now, the world of premium tobacco enjoyment has seen a growing demand for large-format cigars. The brand Asylum reflects this development with a wide range of vitolas – many featuring an impressive ring gauge beyond 60. Especially noteworthy: the April Fools – with a record-breaking 90 ring gauge and an impressive length of 23 centimeters. This cigar is anything but ordinary and is best enjoyed with a touch of humor. But even the other formats from Asylum – with ring gauges of 70 or 80 – impress with their presence and character.
Christian Eiroa’s Asylum – A Success Story
Asylum was founded by Kevin Baxter and Tom Lazuka, who had previously worked at Camacho. That role brought him together with Christian Eiroa, a major figure in the cigar industry. Since selling his brand to Davidoff in 2008, Eiroa’s name has been closely associated with premium cigars.

After a contractually agreed market hiatus, Christian Eiroa returned with new visions – including Asylum Cigars. Production takes place in Eiroa’s own tabacalera in Honduras, where exceptional formats are created in close collaboration with Tom and Kevin – driven by expertise, trust, and passion.
Asylum Cigars from Nicaragua
The name Eiroa stands for uncompromising quality and creative blends. Precision craftsmanship is especially critical when it comes to large-format cigars. Yet the Asylum 13 line doesn’t just offer massive ring gauges – fans of classic formats will also find plenty of options. The goal: to appeal to as many enthusiasts as possible. And that concept works – especially in the U.S., where Asylum ranks among the top-selling brands in the large-format cigar segment. Much of this success is due to the Nicaraguan tobacco, which reveals the complex flavor of Nicaragua in every cigar with earthy, subtly woody notes.

The selection is complemented by the Schizo line, positioned as an affordable alternative with medium to large ring gauges. These medium fillers are also available in bundles and offer an especially attractive price-performance ratio.
Asylum Schizo Cigarillos – Small Formats, Big Flavor
To mark its anniversary, Asylum paid tribute to the origins of its tobaccos. The Years 10 line impresses as a Honduran puro with a sophisticated blend and presentation worthy of the occasion.
For shorter moments of enjoyment, the machine-made Schizo cigarillos are a great option. Produced in Honduras, they combine a Java Besuki wrapper, a homogenized tobacco leaf (HTL) as binder, and a finely tuned filler blend from Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Indonesia. The machine processing ensures an even filler and consistent flavor development in every cigarillo.
