A Queer Cigar? This question might be surprising. But where, if not in Berlin – the city that constantly embraces the new and celebrates the unconventional.
BerlinCigarMen: The Cigar Culture of the Queer Scene
“Ick steh uff Berlin” – the NDW band Ideal couldn't have expressed the Berlin spirit more accurately. In 1980, when the city was still divided, West Berlin thrived as a creative melting pot with raw charm. The fall of the Wall opened new possibilities, and today, Berlin is globally recognized for its boundless freedom and urban adventures.

Even though Berlin appears more refined – and expensive – today, it remains a city that constantly reinvents itself. The legendary bear still dances through the night, and subcultures continue to find their stage: from the legendary raves of the 1990s and gangsta rap to the modern hipster lifestyle. The queer cigar culture has also found its place here.
From a Bar in Schöneberg to the World
Berlin has always been a stronghold of the queer scene – vibrant, diverse, and stylish. It’s no surprise that the BerlinCigarMen formed here, proudly calling themselves “Germany’s biggest gay cigar group.”
On the first Friday of every month, members gather in the legendary Schöneberg Nollendorf district – the heart of Berlin’s queer scene. The bar Pussycat is then transformed into Europe’s largest gay cigar lounge. As a famous Berlin song puts it: “Elsewhere, there’s a curfew; here, the garbage collection signals the end of the night.”
