Bowmore – Whisky

In the heart of the island of Islay, right on the shores of Loch Indaal, lies the region’s oldest licensed distillery. Since 1779, the finest single malt whisky has been crafted here, founded by Scottish farmer David Simson. The brand takes its name from its home, the island capital, Bowmore. Alongside the Scottish flag, the Japanese flag now also flies at the entrance gate, as Bowmore is now part of the internationally renowned Suntory Beam group. However, this has not changed the exquisite quality of this traditional whisky. The Japanese have long proven themselves to be excellent connoisseurs and producers of whisky, as demonstrated by other prestigious brands like Auchentoshan.

Bowmore Whisky: A Smooth Islay Malt with Character

Both geographically and in terms of flavor, Bowmore sits in the middle of Islay. Its phenol content makes it less peaty than the intense whiskies of the south coast but bolder than the milder expressions from the north. Many enthusiasts consider it the perfect entry-level whisky into the fascinating world of Islay malts, while others appreciate it for its distinctive smoky aromas.

Its unique production process enhances its depth of flavor: Peat is pressed into briquettes to intensify the aroma during the malting process. At the same time, this method reduces peat consumption by up to 75%. Sustainability plays a key role at the distillery—so much so that an old warehouse has even been transformed into a swimming pool, heated using excess heat from whisky production.

Bowmore Whisky – A Multilayered Aroma from Islay

Bowmore is known for its exceptional complexity. The water, which passes through various layers of soil on its way to the distillery, leaves a unique imprint on its character.

Elegant smoke and maritime freshness: Bowmore Whisky

The salty sea air, which flows freely through the warehouses, also contributes to its unmistakable character. No other Islay whisky is as deeply influenced by the maritime breeze. The result: a perfectly balanced single malt with a delicate briny note, taking whisky lovers on a sensory journey to the Scottish coastline.
