Don Diego Cigars – Dominican Premium Longfillers
For more than five decades, Don Diego Cigars have been a staple in the demanding segment of high-quality premium longfillers. Their enduring success is no coincidence, as they impress with outstanding quality and masterful craftsmanship. This is ensured by experts with decades of experience in premium cigar manufacturing. Pepe Garcia, a Cuban exile, created the Don Diego brand in the 1960s – initially on the Canary Islands.
Following the U.S. embargo on Cuban cigars, Don Diego initially found a new production facility in the Canary Islands. Today, these hand-rolled longfillers are crafted in the renowned Tabacalera de Garcia in the Dominican Republic. Under the leadership of Jose Seijas, one of the industry's most respected master blenders, the factory ensured excellent quality and consistency for many years. Even though Seijas retired in 2014, his legacy remains evident in every Don Diego cigar. No wonder these cigars have received multiple awards from industry magazines for their outstanding quality.
The Don Diego Collection
The Don Diego Classic cigars stand out at first glance with their bright, silky-smooth Connecticut Shade wrapper. The high-quality binder and carefully selected filler come from the Dominican Republic, complemented by exquisite tobacco from Brazil. In terms of flavor, aficionados can expect a well-balanced smoking experience: mild, yet aromatic and full-bodied. Notes of nuts and pepper blend with subtle hints of wood and honey. Thanks to superior craftsmanship, the cigar offers an even burn and effortless draw.
For Don Diego enthusiasts who want to showcase their style, the Don Diego Ashtray is a true highlight. Its elegant design, featuring the iconic brand logo, makes it a standout piece in any smoking lounge.
Design and Character of Don Diego Cigars
Another distinctive feature of these cigars is their artistically designed band: Styled like a medieval crest, it depicts two horses flanking a shield. On the shield, there is possibly an image of a cigar, crowned by a knight’s helmet whose ornamentation harmonizes with the horses' colors. Two stylized tobacco branches frame the design, while the “Don Diego” lettering completes the upper section. A unique trademark with high recognition value.
Finally, it is worth taking a look at Tabacalera de Garcia, which claims to be the world's largest manufacturer of hand-rolled cigars and is a significant employer in the region. The factory is part of the tobacco conglomerate Altadis USA and home to many renowned brands. Alongside Don Diego, it also produces Santa Damiana, Vega Fina, and for the U.S. market, the Dominican versions of Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann, and Trinidad.
