El Galan Cigars: Enthusiasm Among Aficionados and the Trade Press
On the American cigar market, El Galan has gained attention with excellent reviews. The ratings from renowned industry magazines have consistently been at the top end of the scale — a reliable sign of outstanding quality. This remarkable feedback sparked our curiosity to experience these cigars up close.
During our visit to the IPCPR trade show in Las Vegas in 2016, we had the chance to meet the charismatic brand owner Felix A. Mesa in person. From the very first tastings, his cigars were fully convincing. It quickly became clear to us: these outstanding puros — which at the time were scarcely available in Europe — should also delight cigar lovers in Germany. Since we source the products directly without intermediaries, we can offer them at similarly attractive prices as in the USA.
Cuban Heritage – Nicaraguan Craftsmanship
That Felix Mesa has mastered his craft comes as no surprise — after all, he hails from a traditional Cuban tobacco family. The El Galan brand is dedicated to his grandfather, a man known for his noble character. Mesa has since become an international figure: none other than Carlito Fuente entrusted him with overseeing the then-emerging Fuente factory in Nicaragua. Quality finds its way — even in the premium segment of the cigar industry.
Diversity and Character: Cigars by El Galan
The El Galan Connecticut series presents itself as a Nicaraguan puro with a finely balanced aroma profile. Compared to the stronger Reserva Especial line, it reveals milder notes without sacrificing depth. The latter features an Oscuro wrapper, responsible for the dark color and more intense flavor. Both lines develop impressive complexity as they are smoked.
The Maduro series from El Galan impresses with a Brazilian wrapper that adds a hint of sweetness — a delightful contrast to the deeper tobacco notes. For price-conscious enthusiasts, the Tobaco de la Casa line is an appealing choice. Here, El Galan's proven quality meets a remarkably accessible price — ideal for beginners or relaxed everyday enjoyment.
